Bf Telegraph.— Freai Association.— CopjTlfWl ROME, 22nd May.
Abyssinia and Italy have signed a conVention leaving Lugh tb Italy, also conceding other important rights, in return for £120,000 compensation.
Early in January laefc two thousand Abyssinians raided the Lugh territory, in Italian Somaliland, killing and plundering many merchants. Some tribes sided with the Abyssisinians and some with the Italians. A battle was fought, and the losses were very great on both sides. It is' believed that Menelik, Emperor of Abyssinia, did not authorise the raid although it is known that he never looked with approval on the Italian occupation. Italian Somalihmd, in North-East Africa, is separated by the River Juba from the East African Protectorate (British). In January, 1905, Italy assumed soverign rights over this territory, paying the Sultan of Zanzibar £144,000 therefor.
