PERSONAL MATTERS.

His Excellency the Governor (Loid Plunket) left for the South last evening. Inspector Ellison in charge of the Wellington Police District, is at present on an official visit to Nelson. Tho Chief Inspector of Stock for tho colony (Mr. E. Clifton) will leave Lyttelton for Wellington to-night. Mr. W. F. Massey, M.P., 1 Loader of the Opposition, left Wellington ior the Hawkos Bay district this morning. Mr. A. Hamilton, Curator of the Dominion Museum, left Wellington yesterday for the Ruahine Ranges on an ornithological expedition. Mr. Justice Sim, of the Arbitration Court, ' yesterday left Wellington for Rotorua, where he intends spending a. short holiday. The court next meats at Auckland an, 38th inst. Mr. W. Pryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, is to visit tho South Island on business connected with tho federation. Arrangements are in train to establish a strong branch of the federation at Timara. Mr. W. R- Borlase was to-day admitted a barrister of tho Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Edwards, on the application of Mr. Brown. Mr. Clarence A. Arthur was admitted as c. solicitor, on tho motion of Mr. Cyril W. Tanner. j Mr. Wm. Black, F.R.1.8.A., of Capetown, is at present on a visit to Wellington. He was placed second iv tho competition for the Auckland ' Town Hall. Mr. Black brings dismal accounts of the state of trade in South Africa. Mr. and Mrs. Williamson and family were tendered a farewel l "social" at BalUince (telegraphs our local correspondent) prior to leaving for Taradale school, to which Mr. Williamson has. been appointed. Mr. Williamson has been head teacher at Ballance for over nine years, and he and his family were presented with several valuable presents by the settlers. Captain James Lancelot Berryman died at his residence, Opawa a few days ago. Deceased who was fifty years of age, was tho third son of the late R«.v. James Wise Berryman, of Giles, Wisbech, England, and was a nephew of the late Hon. William Rolleston (says the Lyttelton Times), and was, a cadet on tho training ship H.M.S. .Dorcester at the same time as tho famous Admiral Togo and Captain J. Marciel, now superintendent of Mercantile Marine at Lyttelton. He afterwards was in tho service of the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, the Shire Line, and the New Zealand Shipping Company. He retired from the sea several years ago, and. reresided in Lyttelton, and afterwards at Opawa. He had been ailing for some time, but only took to his bed on Thursday, and died suddenly on Saturday.
