[Br TzLiGnkVH.— Spkciai. to The Post.] OTAKI, This Day. The fire which threatened to destroy several holdings along the Otaki river received a chock by the welcome rain, which fell yesterday, and conuequently tho various aottlers are jubilant. Unfortunately, the rain, was of too short duration to be of any great material benefit. [ A local settler threatens to take pro.coedings against the W- and M. Railway Company for alleged damage dono by a passing railway engine. Harvost thanksgiving services were held in the Method in t Church on Sunday, when tho Rev. J Wrigley, of Levin, preached. Ho also officiated at a service at the Sanatorium and To Horo. Tho Row P. H. Paris preached at Levin. Tho death occurred yesterday of Mrs. Gco. A. Monk, aged 23 years, a popu lav resident of Rikioriingi. The Hautere Rille Club opened its season on Saturday, when Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., was present. Mrs. Leightou firod tho first »hot. An enjoyable day was spent in shooting, and • the range waa pronounced to bo a good one. The club intendo arranging a match with Rikiorangi at an early d«to. Mr. Holmofii secretary of tlio Wellington branch of tho V.M.C.A., waa in Otaki yosterday arranging for tho annual oncuiiipmont. It Is probablo that the lads will go into camp on the racccourea/
