The thirteenth annual carnival in connection with the Wellington Amateur Swimming Club was held at Te Aro baths on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately,. the weather wag dull, and the water rough. 'A very fair number of spectators were present. Tb© handicapping, as a whole, was well done, and some interesting finishes were witnessed. The fifty yards ladies' bracelet handicap attracted a large number of entries, and the contestants showed themselves in good form. Gandy (9sec) succeeded in winning the race. •Another race around which much' interest centred was the 100 yards interclub event. In this the leading swimmers competed. Ward (17sec), who swam well, both in his heat and in the' ..final/ managed to finish' first. F. Roberts •(ss'ec), came second," and made a very good face of it. Freyberg (scr) swam well, but could not make up the large handicaps. The fifty yards schoolboy handicap was an interesting event, and several of the ytfaug * competitors Bb<jwed ri good f promise. Hopkirk easily won tijis 'race.' His style was good, and h,e cot through the, water easily. •The neat header inter-club event brought out some, good diving. ' ' R. Nelson succeeded inp utting up the best performance. The 200 yards schoolboys' relay championship was won by the <Jly4e-qu.ay School .for the , third time Ih" successam. - The prize is the Duthie Cup, which has been in possession of Clyde-quay ever since it was presented.
