A church parade of , the Petone 2\»> vals was held at Petone yesterday -rooming, the company, headed by the Petone Brass Band marching to St. Augustine's Church, where the Rev. J. D. Russell preacheii an appropriate sermon. v Mr. Brackenbridge, a member of tit* Hntt Bowling Club was given a hearty send-off by his fellow membets on Saturday, prior to his departure for Christchurch. Mr. D. Bedingfield, first assistant at the Petono State school, has attained his B.A. degree. The' Heretaunga Boating Club, Petone, on Saturday afternoon held an unplaced members race, resulting R. Jenkins's Defiance winning by threa minutes. Only two others started— Mahoe and Pastime who tied for second place. Mahqe won the sail-off. This correspondence is now closed. SCHOOL PICNIC. Thanks largely to the liberal donv tions on the part of tho residents, the result of the Petone State School picnic, both financially and otherwise, quite exceeded the / committees expectations. Nearly 1000 picnicers, young anA old, journeyed to the Hutt Park, whore sports and games were indulged in till shortly after 6 p.m. Tho youngsters were well provided for as regards lollies, nuts, etc ; the facilities for bathing in the Hutt River attracted many> while tho sports events were' keenly contested. Results :—looyds.": — 100 yds." championship, Wilkinson 1, Aitken 2; 100 yd*. open, Haseman 1, Aitken 2 ; IDOyds., under 14, Thompson 1, Wilkinson 2; 100 yds., under 12, Thompsoji 1, Plat* 2 ; 80yds., under 10, Cowio f, Jones 2 ; three-legged race, Wilkinson and Parrant 1, Webster, and Kewland-and Mareden and Andrews, dead heat, 2 ; wheel barrow ra.ee, Webster and Parraiit 1, Wilkinson and Boyd 2. The swimming championship was won by W. Taylor. Several other races have yet to be dacidedi Numerous competitions we» also held among the infants.
