At an inquiry concerning the grounding of the steamer Maranoa, the, ma&tcr (Captain Sharland), deposed that owing to the Illness of the Torres Straits pilot ho ivas acting as pilot himself. He attributed the mishap to .-educod speed, the current oeing thus able to set the vessel out of her course. The Manaroa, a steel screw steamer of 1503 tons gross, and owjied by the Australasian United Steam Navigation Com?any, Ltd., went ashore at Chapman sland on tho 6th inst., while on the trip from Burketown to Brisbane. She was got off comparatively uninjured.
