AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
N.Z. UNION CONFERENCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. — riIFSS ASSOCIATION.] NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Th« New Zealand Athletic Unior Conference opened here last night, delegates being present from every centre in the Dominion. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. George Woods (president) complimented those present on the good work done by the respective centres. He said the new Gaming Act had abolished proprietary athletic gatherings. A forward move had been mado by sports governing bodies in forming a New Zealand Sports Federation, of which the Athletic Union is a member. The application of the New Zealairl Axemen's Association — that the union recommend its entrance to the Spofts Fer3pralion—was refused, pending *tho adoption of amended rules, giving affiliated societies fair representation. It was decided to remove the disqualification inflicted in connection with the Scottish Society of Christchurch games, applications to be made personally. It was agreed thit registration fees bfe allotted at one shilling. Competitors suspended to date in connection with proprietary sports will be eligible to compete after 31st July, 1908. Ths Winton Qnoits Club was granted th 6 new championship for 1908.
