MANGAHAO ENDOWMENTS. CIT COUNCIL'S SPECIAL ORDER.
NEW LEASES FOR TENANTS. Atx'a- special- meeting of the City Council'last night the perennial trouble arising between tho council and its tenants on tho Mangahao Endowment, concerning terms of leases and rentals, was further dealt with. * The business as set forth in the order paper was as, follows: — "To pass a special order pursuant to the provisions of .'jThe 'Municipal Corporations Act, 1900: and its amendments, reducing the re.nt under the leases to the tenants of the Mangahao Endowment to a rental equal to 4 per cent per annum on -the Government valuation, as- made by the Government valuer for the Valuation Department. (2) To accept surrenders of leases of the Jlangahao Endowment from the following persons : — D. Crewe, J. Moynahan, W. Boyden, A. fteese, Mrs. Sloan, Mrs. James, Mrs. Bly,' T. Slext^a, O. Bofctomley, J. Champion, A. Beetham, C. Beetham, J. J). C. Crewo, and to grant new leases of the lands surrendered to the surren^erprs for a term of 13 yearaand 8 months from the Ist day of April, 1908, at a rental equal to 4 , per cento per annum on the amount of the unamended J valuatiop as made by the Government valuer for v the Valuation Department, for 'fche unimproved value oif ,the v land 'leased, for provisions' .'{or^e^w^l frojn-tirqe co-time for successive terms of 14 years at a ground rental only, to be fixed by valuation without improvements, by three persons, one to be appointed by the tenant, one by the coiporation, and one by the two valuer* bo appointed, the provisions for valuations and renewals to be, tho same as those contained in The Wellington City Leasing Act, 1904, with also a proviso for re-en^ry if the rent reserved shall bo 30 day 6in arrear, or if there shall at any time be any breach or non-observance of any covenants on the part of the tenants to pay the rent reserved halfyearly, and to pay all rates, taxes, assessments ■ and other outgoings payablo in respect of the demised premises. T£e form of lease to be settled by tho city solicitor," The form of the resolution was amended to make it clear that felling timber would not be counted as improvements. In this form it was agreed to.
