A. WONDERFUL SIGHT
Mr. James Paul, millionaire, of Philadelphia, has just celebrated the debut of his daughter, Mary Astor Paul, by giving a most sumptuous banquet nnd ball, which cost £25.000. The feature of tho entertainment (according to an exchange) was the release of a collection of beautiful butterflies from South America and tho West Indies. While tho five hundred guests' wore dancing, thousands of these Specially imported insocts suddenly fluttered abovo them, and darted here and thero among the flowers and .soft lights and fountains. It ia said that tho scene was for a time realty beautiful, for most of tho butterflies were of gorgeous colourings, and the general scheme of decoration was quite suitablo to the Occasion. Tho hall in which tho ball war. held was transformed for £110 night into an exact copy of a French 1 garden of the Louis Seize period, and the dresses .and jewels of the guests wcro equally magnificent. But the poor litt/o butterflies" did not last long, and as they gathered in clusters on tho wreaths of iiowers their wings shrivelled, and their bodies fell to the floor. But tho guests were enchanted with tho beautiful effect, which was so brief and so expensive.
