A REVIVAL.
. Last year there was plenty of incident in the sculliug world, principally in Australia. In May J. Mitchell beat J. B<;arle foe a £200 stake on the Clarence Biver. F. Ford, a young sculler of great prpniise, defeated S. Kemp for £200 on the same river. In Juno, also on the Hunter, Tresidder vanquished Thorouqhgood ; in August Webb took the world's championship from C. Towns. W. Fogwell, a smart young oarsman, beat Mitchell on the Clareuco in November. Also IL Arnst, of cycling fame, proved a champion in a boat. In Wanganui, of course, sculling now interests everybody, from knickerbocksrs to greybeards, and the renaissance cannot fail to influence all other 'parts of New Zealand. Whclch, of Akaroa, has talked of challenging tho winner of tomorrow's battle, and the burly Arnst' is already looking abound for backers, Australian or New Zealander. He is a professional soldier, and his. strong limb 9 are ready to fight for the country which will give him solid," \ery solid, encouragement.
