STRIKE IN TIMBER TRADE. GOOD PROSPECTS OF A SETTLEMENT.

After a conferenco of representatives from the Timber Merchants' Association and a deputation from the strikers and representatives of other unions interested, an official announcement "was mado to-day that there were good prospects of an immediate settlement of the trouble. A further conferenco will bo held tomorrow. It is understood the proposal is to submit tho matterb in dispute to arbitration, each side appointing a representative, with an umpire. STRIKE ENDED. The men resume this morning pending the Arbitration Court deciding on their claims early next month.
