SIR H. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN MAKING A GOOD RECOVERY.

By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 17th February. Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman, the Prime Minister, who developed a mild attack of influenza, is making good progress towards recovery.

Simultaneously the northerly brings joy and sorrow to residents of Clyde-quay and Oiiental Bay. A heavy wind gives housewives plonty of exercise in removing brine from windows, but the same tempest piles up drift-wood along the shore. Even a moderate breeze will send iii a fair supply of timber, rough from the forest or sawn, and there is a sci amble for the fuel. The competition for this cheap firewood is so keen that tho birds have to rise very early to catch tho worm. Recently, a citizen, who happened to be near the coast when a very solid log was wafted in at dusk, secured it to a lock with a pieco of wire, intending to transport it to his premises first thing in the morning. Soon after six o'clock ho had the pleasure of seeing a boy wheeling home tho log in a barrow which he had borrowed over night from tho citizen's wife The man preached at the small boy ; he told tho youngstor that ho was mindinc tho log in ca&e the lawful owner should arrive to claim it, and that was why ho had tethered it' down ; if the boy persisted in remoVing the log he would bo guilty of theft, and would never go to heaven when he died. The boy decided to tako his chance in the next world with the log as a handirap ; his parents got tho firewood, and he then politely returned tho barrovv..
