LOCAL AND GENERAL Quite a brisk tono prevaded tho atmosphere of tho Stock Exchange this morning. Six sales were made in five stocks. National Banks were dealt in at £5 6s 6d and £5 7s, Bank of New South Wales at £43 10s, Clear meats at £2 9s, kauri timber at l()s Id, and Talisman Consolidated at £2 14s 6d. The quotation for Waihis, buyers £9, sellers £9 4s, was too wi3e to permit of business. There are unsupplied buyers in the market for several stocks including.-— Bank of New Zealand, Equitable Building, N.Z., River Plate, Wellington Trust and Loan, and Wellington Manawatu rails. Privato advices from Tokomaru Bay state that at the end of last week splendid rain fell there. With the exception of a shower af Christmas, this is the first rain since 10th November. It has done an imemnse amount of good. Showers have been general throughout tho district, and the turnip crops are now likely to be safe.
