Brown, Webb, Veitch (skip) ; Grundy, Focke, Leslie, Church' ward (skip); Dvummond, Flewellen, Osborne, Ballingei- (skip); Still, W. H. Frost, Knapp, Mouat (skip) ; Ledger, E. M. The Thorndon Club will be represented by — Mitford, Mason, Loighton, M'Kerrow (skip) ; Shallcrass, "Reeves, Smith, W. F. Barraud (skip). The fixture, which is a pretty big contract for Iho p-areut club to take on, is being looked forward to with much interest. It is tho first match of the kind which has taken place since the club's new clubhouse was erected, and as the accommodation now provided is much greater than that previously existing, the success of the affair, given fine weather, is practically assured. The club also hopes and_ expects to < see a large muster of ladies, who, as is well known, aro always welcome^ visitors to tho bowling greens of _ the city and suburbs. A strong committee of ladies has been organised to look after the provision of afternoon tea on this occasion, and all members of tho sex will be heartily welcomed. For the Junior Pennants on Saturday the following will play for Wellington against Petone, both rinks on the Petono green :—: — M 4 Arthur, Wylie, Pearce, Grenfc'l (skip); Webb, Blake, Freebairn, Greatbaich (skip). All trophy fixtures (Edw in Feathers, etc.) for next Saturday are postponed -till the following Saturday. The Junior Pennant matches will however be played. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., who has been spending a long holiday in the Auckland district, will return to Wellington by the 'Manawatu train to-niglit. A meeting of the local police will be held this evening for the purpose of considering tho new civil service superannuation scheme. They will also consider whether it is advisable to adopt the scheme or retain their own provident fund. A question of ownership of a certain area of land in tho Taupo block was involved in th& case of the Public Trustee v. Palmer and others, heard before Mr Justice Chapman this afternoon. Mr. Trsadwcll appeared for the Public Trustee. Mr. H. D. Bell, K.C., for the Crown Tho dispute arose out of a decision of tho judge of tho Native Land Court, in dealing with the land, which had been used as a Maori burial plac<' for many years, and was vested in Wi Parat.i. The case was a motion for a mandamus to the Chief Judge of the Native Land Couit. under a series of circumstances <:et out in the stateniont of claim.
