HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL. TO-DAY'S MEETING.

The Hutt County Council met to-day. Present — Messrs W. Galloway (chairman), J. Wakehain, l\\ Welch, P, Ed-nv-rds, M. J. Lynch, and J. Whiteman. The Inspector of Woaks (Mr. Cudby) reported that the roads throughout tlie^ county were in as good i-i'der as could be expected considering \'he long spell of dry weather. They also offered, instead of paying a wheel tax, to keep the. road in good order for a distance of iwo miles to the satisfaction of the council's overseer. This offer was accepted by the council. A deputation, consisting of the mem, bers ot the Makara County Council, waited on the council to explain certain matters connected with thp financial adjustment, which is to be made between the two bodies. The chairman of the Makara County Council (Mr. Moore) said his council desired to get the use of the county offices and they also contended that they were entitled to one-third of the assets of the Hutt County. He hoped that an amicable settlement would be ai rived at without the case going before a commissioner for adjustment. It was decided to do nothing until the clerks of both bodies had reported on the financial position, and consulted with the chairman. The matter of Makara County utilising the services of the Hutt County's rn.iger was also discussed. It was agreed that the Hutt County should pay £80 of his salary and Makara £30.
