NOT ALLOWING THE HALF-HOLI-DAY. The Inspector of Factories proceeded against several hotel and restaurant keepers at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. Riddcll, S.M., yesterday, for employing assistants without allowing them the recognised weekly half-holi-day. For this offence Samuel Gilmer, who had been previously convicted, was fined 30s and 7s costs'; Frederick Dobson and Mrs. E. Maxwell 10s and costs 7s ; Thomas Ashman was ordered to pay court costs, 7s. Mrs. E. Maxwell was further proceeded against for employing assistants" for more than 52 hours a week. Bollon on behalf of the defendant. Arthur Percival Walker was fined 10s and costs 9s for driving a vehicle at other than a walking pace across the intersection of Lamblon-quay and Willisstrcct. For loitering in a public place, and refusing to move on when requested to by the police, Arthur Lowe was fined 40s, and 7s costs. Alfred Evant,, charged with allowing an express to remain longer than was reasonable in a public street, was fined 20s and ordered to pay 10s costs. Alexander Smith, who had allowed a horse to stand on the footpath in Upper Cuba-street, was fined 10& nnd 7s costs. For trespassing on a prohibited portion of tho Government Railway Station.
