GROUND FOR SPORTS.
to thb rurron. Sir, — Dr. New .nan is reported in last night's paper a* saying the Basin Repgrvo was unsuitable for sports meetings. It occurred to mo that if the different sports committees could form somo sort of a union it would bo easy for them to purchase a suitable ground, which they could control entirely for the .benefit of sport generally, and which would pay well. Such a ground would be in uso for both summer .and winter sport. Some people seem to think of nothing but asking the council to set apart grounds for their particular benefit, as if the council had any amount of level places to bo given to anybody for the asking. Theso troubles will increase as timo poes on, and the next generation of sports will bemoan the shortsightedness of tho profeut one. If action was taken toon it might be possible to purchase somo of the remaining level land at Island Bay. In a short timo it will bo all built on and so be beyond reach. I suggest Island Bay ks being close and easily accessible, which is one of the main factors of successfully drawing a crowd. — I am. etc. FOREHAND. 6th February, 1908.
