At the instance of tho Labour party, Mr. Barnes (Labour) moved in th& Houso of Commons that tho status of Ministerial portfolios remain unaltered until it has been ascertained how far the duties now assigned to the Home, Board of Trade, and Local Government Departments in relation to labour could bo grouped under the control of a Minister of Labour. Tho question of the staius of the President, ot the Board of Trade was recently raised. While that Ministeris paid only_ £2000 a year, several of tha Secretaries (War, Foreign Affairs, etc.) receive £6000.
