Moat interest naturally focussed in Waihi scrip, which, -after opening fractionally firmer than yesterday, found acceptance at £8 15s. Unless tho demand on London account i 3 very insistent, the quotation of £8 15s, ruling since last Saturday, may not unlikely bo .established as a basis upon which a fair volume of liquidation by holders will take place. Sales of Talismans wero effected at yesterday's price of £2 13s 3d. Tairua Broken Hills were again th'o medium of dealing at the slightly higher rate of 4s Id. May Queen were quitted at Is lid. Sellers of Waihi Extended' declared at 4s lOd, and Grand Junctions were offered at £1 7s, about one-half their price a year ago. Big River were enquired for at 12s. A mednl struck for distribution to the natives of the islands visited by Captain i Cook on his second voyage has been added to the museum collection. A meeting of the supporters of Mr. R. Fletcher, who is again standing for election to the Harbour Board, was held last evening, and a strong committee- was set up to further the candidate's interest. Mr. Fletcher ui'l address public meetings bofore the election. Tho Minister of Lands (the Hon. R. M'Nab), lias been advised by Mr. C. "J. Fulton, who is in St. Helena, osUiblish- | ing the flax industry on a permanent basis, that the mill on the island is now in working order. / If carried on under good management, Mr. Fulton is of opinion that the flax industry will be of gi'eat I benefit to eh distressed islanders. The i ceremony of opening the mill was performed by the Governor who particularly thanked New Zealand for rendering such i valuable assistance. The Convalescent Home Trustees met ni Mrs. Newman's yesterday. Present : Mesdnmes Grady (in the chair), Brandon, ! Moorhouse, Barron, Newman, and Miss Contes.
