Beef again met with a dragging eale. Store Bheep wore in strong demand for tho Bouth and fat lambs were firm. There was no change in tho quotations for pigß. The yarding of store sheep was a large' one, and was made up chiefly of iambs and ewes. The presence of buyers from South Canterbury and North. Otago * effectod a considerable improvement in the demand, and prices in some lines showed an advance of Is per head. Young ewes and lambs for rape were mostly Bought after. The yarding of fat lambs was larger than last week, though tho bulk were irregular in quality. The export buyers were operating fi.«ely at the previous week'B rates, and for light and unfinished lambs graziers were competing- in sympathy with the market for stores. Light lambs improved in price, tho range of valuos was — Tcg3 15s to 17s, a few extra to 18s, standard weights 14s to 15s, lighter Kb 6d to 13s 6d, rape lambs 10s to 13s 6d The ontry of fat cattle totalled 266 head, a, few pens being very prime. A fair inquiry is expected for shipment, and to supply orders shippers are turning attention to the new crot). So far only a few samples have come to hand, and have found "buyers at a shade below values for old oats. Prime milling old, 2s 3id, good to best iced, 2s 2d to 2s 3d, inferior to medium, 2s to 2s l^d. Wheat. — No 'samples of tho new crop havo come forward. The quantity of old wheat on hand is very limited, and is mostly going off as fowl feed, at prices fully equal to quotations for milling. Leighton^ reports:— "At my ram ijur held on Wednesday at Lower Hutt, the advertised number of rams came forward. There was a large attondanco of buyers present. Competition was very keen for Romneys ; Border Leicosterß were rather dull of sale. I sold on account of T. P. Allen, Romney rams from 4gs to 23£gs ; J E. Gear, Border Leicesters at 3ga ; E. J. Riddiford, 55 Romney flock rams up to 6gs. Other Eales were oqually satisfactory".
