LABOUR REPRESENTATION.
! MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. The fourth meeting of the Labour Representation Committee AA'as held in the Trades Hall last night. There Avas a large attendance of delegates from the .difterent .affiliated bodies. Credentials Avere received from three additional unions—viz., the Cooks and SteAvards' Union, tho Federated Seamen's Union of , New Zealand, ,and the Industrial Workers of tho World. \ t The main business of the meeting was the framing of an objective for the committee. A long discussion ensued on the motion tabled at the previous meeting of the committee :—: — "That the objective of this committee bo the socialisation of the means of production, distribution, and exchange." One or tyro amendments' Avere moved Avith tha object of "easing" the objective, but did not receive sufficient support. Eventually tho motion, Avas carried by a large majority, amidst the cheers of delegates. As one^ of the immediate aims of the comniittee, the folloAving resolution Avass carried unanimously :—: — "That the committee take united action to secure the return of candidates pledged to form a distinct Labour group in, Parliament, avlio will , abstain from identifying themselves Avith either the Government or Opposition parties." Considering the bulk and complexity of the committee, delegates expressed themseh'es well satisfiod *Avfth the progress made, at the close of tlio meeting. So far, the election of permanent officers, a form of pledge, and the objective haA-e been decided, and it is expected that at nosjt meeting the Avorking platform of the committee will bo gone on with.
