BUSH FIRES.
DAMAGE AROUND DANNEVIRKE. [BT TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DANNQVTRKE, sth February. During the last fow days the bush fires have subsided somewhat, but this afternoon a fresh wind fanned up the fires in the Piripiri district, near Dannevirke, and considerable damage was done. On the tramway to Holt's sawmill five big bridges uero destroyed, and 100 chain 3of tram line. At Messrs. Anderson, Son, and Co.'s mill the workmen's huts were destroyed, and the stables burnt, but the horses and the other contents were saved. The_ mill was partially dismantled, but there is no water, and the plant is in grave danger. The country between here and pawa is terribly dry and burnt up. Serious consoquences are fesrod unless rain comes soon. Farmers aro suffering greatly through the loss of stock by fire, and have to mako forced sales to prevent starvation of stock.
