His Honour said he r.^ieed with the verdict of the jury, but did not like to send a man to gaol for this offence if it was through mcie carelessness. Ho was not altogether satisfied with accused's conduct^ and intended to getmore information concerning tho case from tho o«.rignce, with a view to ascertaining whfcihc-i accused had an ulterior motive in 'destroying the butts of his cheque-books.
