•HOW THAW'S ACQUITTAL WAS RECEIVED. THE JUDGE'S REASONING. By Telegraph.— Frees Association.— Copyright (Received February 4, 9.10 a.m.) NEW YORK, 3rd February, There was vociferous applause ip court when Thaw was acquitted. Thaw smilingly bowed to the jury. Judge Dowling, in committing Thaw to an asylum, said ho must anticipate recurrent attacks of maniacal and euicidal insanity, as there was no proof that Thaw had made a permanent recovery. Thaw was acquitted on tho ground ; that he was insane at the time he committed the murder. The Judge, deeming it 'dangerous to the public safety that Thaw should be discharged, ordered that he be confined in the Matteswan Asylum for an indefinite period.
