by-election for ross. By TelemDh.— Tress Association.— Hoop right. LONDON, Ist February. An election was hold yesterday to fill the vacancy caused by tho death of the Jite Colonel A. C. Gardner, member for South -Herefordshire (Ross Division). The result of the polling was ns follows : Captain P. dive (.Unionist)... 494 b Mr. Thomson (Liberal) ... 3928 Unionist majority 1018 The result shows a pronounced revulsion of political opinion in the electorate, since at the general election two years ago Colonel Gardner, who was a Liberal, defeated his opponent (the present successful candidate) by over three huudred votes.
