MEASLES BY THE CORINTHIC
PATIENTS ON SOMES ISLAND. On ' Saturday tho population of Somes Island, Wellington's Quarantine Station, was increased by about a dozen persons, sufferers from measles and "contacts." Theso people wore immigrants brought by the Corinthic. Tho disease appeared soon after the steamer left Capetown, and at on re the ship's surgeon, Dr. Fere, isolated ths victims and contacts, and took ample precautions to prevent the outbreak from spreading. On the day before the Corinthic reached Hobart, one of the victims, a four-year-old boy, Kenneth Eady, died. The present sufferers comprise three children and one youug man, and the "contacts" are three women and five children- This little contingent is destined to spend about ten days in quarantine, but they should not be unhappy prisoners. This sentence, after seven weeks on board a steamer, was not tidings of great joy, but the newcomers mostly resigned themselves- cheerfully to 1 the Health Department's dictum. The ship has made good provision for the comfort of the Somes Islanders. On Saturday about a quarter of a ton of stores was forwarded to the station, j and a steward was sent over to do tho cooking. Under the supervision of Dr. Fere, the steamer has been well disinfected and fumigated.
