Sir Joseph Ward' loft Auckland for Wellington yesterday to welcome the Hon. Mr. Hall-Jones. He will return to Auckland most probably towards tho end of the week, and make his promised tour of the North, which will, most likely extend over a month to five weeks. On Saturday afternoon the. Mrs. Wallis a safe and pleasant voyage to London. The Bishop is leaving to attend the Lambeth Conference. Mr. James Calders, of Napiur, a wellknown telegraphist, has recently retired on pension from the Post and Telegraph Department. During Kis thirty-nine years' of service he had many interesting experiences in different parts of New Zealand, and fcr sticking 'to his post at Opunake in the 70's ,when the Maoris were causing trouble, ho was officially thanked, by Majors Atkinson, Brown, and: Parris. Mr. Andrew Hamilton, who has been on a tour of the Old World, returned to Wellington by the Corinthic on Saturday. Mr. .Hamilton was hon. treasurer of the Wellington Bowling Club for many years, and on his arrival home 'he lost no time in visiting tho green and foregathering with his old companions, from whom he received a hearty reception. During his tour he visited England, Franco, Switzerland, and Italy. "Xot a week passes without someone appearing before the court for using disgusting language," said Mr. Riddell, S.M., this morning at the Magistrate's Court, when a man named John Bennett was charged with using obscene language in Waring Taylor-street.
