' The adjourned enquiry being held by the stewards of the Auckland Trotting Club into tho limning of some of the ponies in the Grandstand Handicap on the concluding day of the summer meeting was resumed this afternoon. Someof the witnesses examined alleged that a "jockeys' ring" pxisted, while others as strenuously denied any such combination. The evidence, generally speaking, wi}s rather conflicting. During the afternoon tho chairman stated that the committee did not think tho owners were in any way to blame for anything that might have occurred, but the committee desired to go fully into the matter, especially as to the question whether there was a jockey?! ring or not. Addressing an owner who was giving- evidence, he said that the committee expected much assistance from owners,' in whose interests it - was desirable that the whole thing -should be .fully, gone into. All f the evidence was made under the statutory de&laration, and" it will in due course be forwarded to th& Metropolitan* Committee. CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB'S - -AUTUMN MEETING.
