TECHNICAL EDUCATION BOARD.

j MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tae Wellington Technical Education Board <was held last night. Mr. J. P. Luke, presided, and thoro were also p-resent Messrs. W. Allan, T. Ballinger, D. Robertson, D. M'Lareu, and T. Caraiichael. Leave of absence was granted to Captain M'Donald, and a vote of sympathy was tendered to him in his bereavement. The chairman stated that with, moneys due from the Government the nominal debit balance of the board would be extinguished!. The- £900 which the board had expended for apparatus and material was to be refunded. He thought the members of the board could congratulate themselves on coming through the year with no serious debit _ balance, when everything 1 was -taken into consideration, such 'as the repairs to the buildings and necessary alteiations to meet the increasing "requirements of the school. The work of Mr. La Trobe and his staff was appreciated by the members, and he belioved the school had never been better staffed and equipped. Accounts to the amount of £525 11s lid (including £444 11s 8S for January salaries) were passed for payment. APPRECIATION. Th.B chairman expressed 'gTea-t satisfaction at the- appointment of Messrs. J.G. W. Aitken, M.P., W. H. Field, M.P., and W. Allan as representatives of the Education B6i»d. He moved that the board should plaos on record its sense of the valuable services of Captain M'Donald as a member of the board. Mr. Robertson^ in seconding the motion, expressed a hope that the new members would -assist the board to obtain the Mount Cook site for a tiew technical school. ' " The motion was agieed to. The chairman, in moving that six months' leave of absence be granted to Mr. TV". Allan, who is about to take ai trip to the- Old Country, said no doubt Mr. Allan would visit educational institutions, ajid bring back with' him some useful knowledge and idsas. Mr. Allan, in thanking his 'fellow members, said he fully intended tovrisit technical schools and see what progress was being made, but he considered tha^the Wellington Technical School wafi already weJl to the front. The - school had as able a director as any in the Old Country, and an excellent staff, ,and the only diawback was the lack of accommodation. Consideration of the directors' annual report ->\as again postponed.
