THE WORLD'S SCULLING CHAMPIONSHIP.

CONTESTANTS TRAINING AT . WANGAXUI. TRESIDDER DOES GOOD WORK. [Bt Tklegeaph. — Special to The Post.] WANGANUI,- This Day. ' The weather remains favourable for training operations, -and Tresidtier has taken full advantage- of it over since his arrival. He has stuck to his task in grim earnest, rowing twice a day, and covering about sixteen miles per day walking. s His trainer, J. Bain, declares ,that the, challenger is now as fit as eveT he was, and rowing as well as .ever he did. Des-, pits the amount -of work he is doing his weight still keeps up to 12.11,_ but he has hardened up, and- certainly looks in excellent form. One spin he did over a mile the other day was most impressive, his style being good throughout, bearing out the contention that the faster he goes the better he rows. He finished' strongly, and his trainer was very pleased with the performance, It was his first really fast row here,, and was a rattling pood one. He jumped off striking 27 strokes, finishing at 26 to the minute. Yesterday the water was lumpy, but this appeared to suit the- Australian, who shaped wonderfully veil in the rough water, whereas his pacemaker was in trouble throughput. The ,way in .which the Australian drove his "Ekiff, along was nn eye-opener to those on the banks. This morning there was again a considerable swell, giving Tresidder further opportunity of demonstrating his clever -watermanship. Accompanied by Ford, ho rowed about four miles up the river, Dick putting iv sprints occasionally, and' drawing away from. Ford. Tresidd'ei rowed a solid pace horns, leaving Ford a long Way in the rear. This morning tho row was an extra long and solid one, as, Tresidder will not be afloat this afternoon, when he is going for a particularly long walk. > Webb returned to town last, evening, after having put in a four days' spell up 'the river picnicking -with his wife and family. The spell was considered advisable, as the champion was, so fit, 'and it appears to have done him good' Hewas out this morning "with J. Gjr6en, coveiing four miles at a steady .pace. With two or thTee hard rows he would be fit to race. He looks a picture, 'the muscles -standing' out on his arms and shoulders, whilst his rowing is beautifully clean. There is eveny likelihood of his being fitter and faster than "ever. Green is improving, anxl ought to be, very well for the amateur championship. Ford expuesses his willingness to row a match against 'either Whelch or Green if either cares to tujn professional.
