Mr. A. P. Webster, local manager of the Bank of Australasia, has been appointed the bank's chief inspector for New Zealand, in place of the 'late Mr. H. K. Bethune, whose post he has filled sinco Mr. Bethune was incapacitated by illness some months ago. Mr. Webster has lived in New Zealand since his infancy, having been brought here by his father, in 1859, when ho was 'ess than a year old. He was educated at the Church of England School, Riccarton, .and at Christ'? College, Christchurch. Ho joined the Bank of Australasia in 1876 as a junior, ross to the position of ledger keeper, was promoted to Masterton as accountant in 1880, filled! the same office at Wanganui two years later was made manager of the bank's Feilding branch in 1885, and waa transferred to Ashburton in 1886. In 1887 he went to Patea as manager, and he remained tliere till March, 1894, when he was appointed manager at Palmer Eton North, a post he retained until his transfer to Wellington some three yeais ago, as manager of the bank's branch in this city.
