EDUCATION BOARD.
The Wellington Education Board met yesterday afternoon. Present— Mo?srs. ht, » Chairman), J. G. \V. Aitken, ! bell, W. Allan, and W. C. Bichamn. Leave of ebsenco was granted to Captain M'Dontld, and a vote of sympathy to him was carried on the loss of his fathor. FINANCIAL STATEMENT. Tho statement of finance showed a debit balance of £1650 1 Is Bd, as compared v.ith n credit balance of £180 Is on (he 12th of last month. Works aui thonsod and contract liabilities amounted to £3483-10s' 4d. On tho 'buildings and general account was a debit balance of L 2744, and a credit cf £1076.95,9 don secondary, teohnical, manual and, technical an<l "teachers' salaries accounts togother. A pay-sheet of £8121 16s was 1 passed. Payments amounting to £2497. 103 9d had been mado on various accounts since ■ last board meeting, - Mr. Leer informed the hoard that the lar#e amount of £2200 2s 9d, stated as a, ua'yment for buildings, had been chiefly expended in the .purchase of sites. Mr. Hogg said it was 1 a shomo that so much money had been spent on sito!?. when the grant \vas allocated for the erection, of buildings. Tho payments were- approved. HUTTf EASTERN SCHOOL. Tho cpmjniftee, to whom v. as referred tho question of tho school recommended— (1) That a main school'should be established on (he recently acquired site; (2) that plans should bo prepared < for a whool to accommodate 400 pupils ; (3) (hat application, should bo made to the department for a grunt fpr tho immediate accoimnodatiqn of 250 pupils. Mr. A. ■jyile moved the adoption of 0)0 report with tho proviso ihat the itccoiMmodation should, be for 600 not' 400. Mr, Hogg.fcocondod tho motion. Mr. Kebbeli euid ho' would jnove for l,lio erection of, an infant school instead of a main school. Mr. Allan seconded tho amendment. Mr. Vile said that tho idea of providing for tho accommodation of 250 children was to relieve the present congestion. Tho committee's recommendations were adopted. WORK- AUTHORISED. It was decided— That arrangement's should be mado with the department to allow, tvio smaller houses to be built at Mangatiti in place of one; that a plan of drainage at the residence at Levin should be approved ; that authority should be given to take proceedings re fencing •at Northland ; that rental of building at Takapau be 7s per week ; that the asphalt at South Wellington School bo top dressed ; that tho roots of the smaller buildings at Nowtown should be painted und baseboards renewed. - I
