WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY.

ANNUAL REPORT. At the thirty-eighth annual general meeting of tht> Wellington Ga& Company, to be held on Monday next, Iho report to be submitted by the directors mentions that there has been a substantial increase in th<r consumption of gas. During the year six and a half miles of new mains ha\e been laid, and tho gas extended to Northland, Melrose, {•nd Hataitai. An area of fourteen acres of land has been purchased at Miramar as a site for new works. A tender has been accepted for the supply and -erection of a new gasholder. In order to provide for necessary funds for works extension, a special meeting of tho shareholders will be called at tho earliest opportunity. The plant has been kept in good order, a sum of £5270 8s 6d having been spent out of revenue oa repaiis and maintenance. A dividend of 10s per share\ on the fully paid-up shait's, and a corresponding rate on tho paitly paid-up shares, was- paid on Ist August, and a similar amount is recommended for tho past half-year. Messrs. D. Anderson, J. Barry, and H. Beauchamp retire from tho board by rotation, out, being eligible, offer themselves for re-election. The profit and loss account for the year ended 31st December lust shows the following items :— Debit : To manufacture and distribution of gas, repairs and renewal of plant, management, interest, bad debts, and miscellaneous charges, £54,410 16s ; works extension reserve, £10,000 ; interim dividend, £6228 10s; profit and loss balance, £18,026 17s 3d; total, £8,666 3s 3d. Credit — By balance 31st December, 1906 (£14,216 10s 2d), less dividend paid Ist February, 1907 (amounting to £6228 10s), £7938 0s 2d ; sales of gas, products, etc., £80,678 3s Id; total, £88,666 3s 3d.
