WAIHI MINING NEWS.

IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS IN • ¦ AVAIHI LOW LEVEL. ¦ ¦ ¦ A' GREAT WIDTH OF EDWARD" ' • REEF .. ' [Bt Telegeafh —Special to The Fost.] ¦ ' WAIHI. This Dqj\ - I have already referred to the " inireasing width of the Edward re.?f at No. S .-plain level in the Waihi mine as onfe of the most gratifying features of the j development works iti progress— the I present, lowest .work le7*l in this famous bullion producer,. In rAy last' report. I stated that a cross cub 'projected at 150 j feet in th* western drift on the Edward had proved the ore body to be no less tha-n 48 feet in width, with highly pay»b!e sulphide ore right across. I have row to -report that the latest dosscut projected at 200 feet has .penetrated sulphide ore giving equally good values for up-wa-rds' of 65 feet/. In .order that tho importance of tho development/ may be grasped I give a ¦ few comparative figures' relative -to the Edward reef at ihe Nos. 7 and' B plain levels. At No. 7 WveJ ,the lode was 'drifted' upon for quite 700 feet carrying pay dirt for "the full distance, but at no point did the width ixceed 20 feet. In the lower workings however, the widths have grea, tly exceeded those at. No. 7, and have increased js -the drift, which is now in a total distance of 200 feet, has been advanced is the first crosscut put in at 50 feet { ta-ve a width of 27 feet, the /second at 100 feet a width, of -28 feet, the third at 150' feet a width of 48 f&et, k and the crossjut under notice projected nt 200 feet a ridth of over 65 feet. Throughout, sulphide ore of good 'grade has been exposed >y sampling and as 'there, is good reason to Inticipfite a long stretch .of ore ahead if No. 8 level, it is evident" that the levelopme'nt is going to acU gieatly 1,0 lie company's already extensive ore retires.
