KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL

• » . Tli3 ordinary meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last evening. Present : Tho Mayor (Mr. .A. C. Pcarce), Councillors Wedde, Lisiington, Cathie, Spiers, Smith, Clark, and Hammond. In reply to a letter from the borough asking tha City Council to furnish an estimate of the- cost of extending the Karori tramways to the foot ot the iUakara Hill, the consulting tramway engineers stated that they would require plans showing the formation of th© loads over which the track is to bo laid; also section showing \ gradients :!iid position of terminus descent. It was decided to forward the necessary plans and information. With reference to the council's order for the , erection of twenty-one lamps in Karori, the Wellington City Corporation Electric Lighting Department advised that sixteen had be-en erected ; but that the others were unable to be erected owing' to the positions not having bsen given. TII9 clerk was instructed to' give the information. A letter was received from the Minister of Internal Affairs acknowledging the receipt .'of the council's objection to the inclusion of Northland in the city of Wellington. The Department of Roadsj, in reply to a request from the council to have certain streets exempted from tho provisions of section 117 of the Public Works Act, stated that, as the borough apparently wanted some of the streets cxemptsd on one side only, it would bo necessary to give a satisfactory reason for this course. It was alsp stated that one of the conditions under which the Minister, agreed to ths exemption was that the streets should be widened 75 links, and the council would have to show tiiat it had obtained a title for the extra width required before steps could bo taken to e::cmpt such streets from the operation of the Act. The matter was referred to tho Compensation 'Committee.
