THE BIG EXHIBITION. COLONIAL PICTURES MUST BE SENT FOR APPROVAL.

By Telegraph.— Pre«s Aesoolation.— Copyright. LONDON, 10th January. Tho committee of the Franco-British Exhibition has informed the AgentsGeneral, that it is impossible to reserve space for a fine arts building for Australian artists. All colonial pictures must be sent for approval. Space for the loan eoction of women's work does not exceed 1500 ft, and only 150 ft are available for Australia. Tho Agents-General wore offered 2000 feet in the A ustralian court, but the Melbourne authorities would not accept this. The exhibits will be housed in twenty palaces, and 6,ne of the largest of these will be the | Machinery Hall- On the right is the stadium for tho Olympic games, which will bo capable of accommodating 80,000 people. At the head of the "grounds, and forming a huge semi-circlo, will be the sections containing the exhibits of the French and English colonies. On the left will be tho English, including) products from India, Canada, Australia, New Zealand,' and Ceylon. On the right will be> the French colonial products. So extensive will be the exhibits that, in addition to the 136 acres forming the exhibition grounds proper, four acres for buildings have been acquired on the other side of tho road, which will be crossed by a bridge. It wijl be readily imagined that tho scope of the exhibition- will Jbe remarkable. One-lyilf of the entire space will be devoted to the French exhibits,, which will be more extensive than thosex displayed by Franco at any exhibition outside Paris. An organising committee is at work in France, under Government jurisdiction, and an efficient scheme of organisation covers the United Kingdom, and the colonies, and there is every indication that the exhibits of the two nations will be such as to attract visitors from all parts of the world. Special arrangements will be made on British and Continental railways for tho conveyance of visitors to the exhibition, and it will be possible to gravel from Dover and other ports at which boats from the Continent arrive direct to tho ! grounds. In addition to the existing ' railway facilities, a new tube station nnd a now Metropolitan and ,Great Western station are to be erected r adjoining tho gronnds.
