During the evening several musical items were contributed and an exhibition of blindfold writing given by students. ■ MARIST BROTHERS. The annual prize-giving and entprfaininent in connection with the Marist Brothers' School was held in His Majesty's Theatre last evening. Tho building was crowded with parents and friends, and Archbishop Redwood presided. A miscellaneous programme of a high order was provided by tho boys, and the way in which' the' different items were rendered reflected credit on tho teachers. Archbishop Redwood, iv the courso of a few remarks, referred to tho good work being carried on in the school. The result of thS' "year's work was very creditable both to-tho teachers and boys. Parents, pupils and teachers of tho Petone District High School gathered at tho school grounds yesterday afternoon, on the occasion of the "breaking up" fpr the summer vacation. The ceremony look the form of a garden party, which, however, was marred to a certain extent by the unfavourable weather. Tho tennis matches were therefore unavoidably postponed. During tho afternoon tho various prizes won during the year were distributed. The next presentation was of especial interest, Mr. James Lynskey, head of tho secondary school, being tho recipient. Mr. James Home, headmaster, iv making the presentation on behalf of the matriculation pupils, as a token of appreciation for extra help afforded them, referred in eulogistic terms lo Mr. Lynskey's value, as a master, both in and out of school.
