; » The Citj- Council met last night, there being present tho Mayor (in the chair), and Councillors Godber. Murdoch, Morr.ih, Hindmarsh, Carmichacl, Hale,_ Ballinger, Cohen, Smith, .Flctcher,"and M'Larin. Councillor Luke was granted leave of absence. ; BYLAWS. The Bylaws Committee recommended : (1^ That thp. application of Messrs. F. and W. Ferkins for permission, to orect six houses on Town Aero 437, Wool-corabe-strcet, be not granted, the application not boing in accordance with the bylaws. (2) That the application of Mr. G G .Schwartz, on behalf of Mrs. Horlor, for permission to form a right of way off Hawknr street, ho granted, subject to the conditions recommended by the City Engineer Tho committee reported that it had further consideration to the application of Mrs Wright to erect a dwelling r.l Seddon-terrace. and, as tho Building Inspector reported that theie was ample, air space, the committee saw no reason to ask the. council to rescind the reso lotion granting a permit for the erection of the dwelling. The report was adopted. FINANCE. Among other things the Finance Com mittee recommended that accounts amounting to £9840 be passed for payment. The report was adopted THE LIBRARY. The Libraries' Committee reported : (1) That it had empowered the Chief Librarian to make provision for free membership tickets for the library for the coming year to prize winners in the ichool essay competitions (2) That it had approved the draft plans prepared by Mr. E. W. Tetherick, for the pioposed extensions to the Xewtoun Library, and had requested him to pioceed with (he plans in order that teudi»rs may be railed for tho work of erection immediately. The report was adopted, the Mayor stating that the dosf of the addition to the Xewtown Library would come out of the general fund OUTLYING DISTRICTS. Mi. C. J. Johnson to sell to the Corporation a strip of land 10 feet in width, part of section 18, and 6 feet in width, part of section 29, Thamesstrcpt. Island Bay. for th" sum of £120, subjprt to Hie council undertaking to continue the drain from Clydestie<*t to the Parade at once, Mr. Johnson to do all tho necessary fencing on the line of the right of ■nn.V- The committee recommends tho acceptance of tho offer on the above terms.
