[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] THE NEW 'HEBRIDES. • AUCKLAND, 19th December. H.M.S. Challenger, which arrived afc Auckland to-day, conveyed the British Commissioner from Fiji to tho New Hebrides, where he was welcomed by tbft French Commissioner. The proclamation of joint control by England and Franco wag read ashore, " and , the flags of England and France unfurled and salutes fired by French and British -warships. The British Commissioner said la-w and order would be established, a,nd any further attempt* at tribal .revolts would be put down with a firm hand. A British Resident was formally appointed, and Captain Borrower, of thi New Zealand Force, was left in the group to organise the police force. ASSOOIATESHIP DIPLOMA. DIVORCE CASE. AUCKLAND, 19fch December. Mr. Justice Demiiston granted a decree nisi in the case of. Rebecca Marlborough, v. Walter C. Maryborough. RATABLE VALUE OF AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, 19th December. A report from the City Vainer, read afe to-night's meeting of the City Council, stated that the ratable value of the city for the current year was £474,690. There were thirty supplementary valuations 'aggregating £14,467, and another to be Rubmitted in February. This, with increase on the, old land values, .the valuer estimates to bring the annual increase up to £25,000 ratable value, equal to a capital value of about £500,000.
