Tho Admiralty has decided to conduct aboard the battleship Colossus tests in connection with explosions in modern magazines on battleships. Explosions on warships have not boon infrequent of late. The French battleship Jena was wrecked by an explosion in her magazine, the ca"nse of which could only bo surmised. A commission of enquiry, appointed by the Senate, stated that contractors were unaware of the composition or nature of the powder when arranging for its storage, and that, in some instances, warships' magazines were placed next to compartments whero temperature was always high.
