Matenga has been evading his pursuers for the past six years. A warrant for his arrest for "horse-stealing has been out since 1900. Two different parties, organised by the police, had previously failed to catch the fugitive. The last, which spent five months in tho bush in the Waiapu district, consisted of Detective Broborg, Mr. J. Earle, and Constable M'Alister. Tho privations suffered by this tiio havo alroady been told in tho press A couple of months ago, tho Commissioner of Police decided to again scud a party on tho track of the fugitive.
