Walpolo, at present, rertor of Lambeth, and ono liiue of Auckland, New Zealand, has been appointed to the Canonry of E\sicr Cathedral, rendered vacant by the death of tho late Treasurer A the/ton. Dr. Walpolo was ordained deacon in 1878. and priest the following year. After filling scholastic and clerical appointments at Truro, he went out to New Zealand, and was incumbent of St. Mary's parish, Auckland, from 1882-80. From 18C3 to lUtl'J ho was chaplain to the Bishop oi" Auckland, and from 188<-1 to 1886 ho held the position of warden of St. John" a College, Auckland. Dr. Walpole was Professor of Systematic Divinity in General Theology, New York, 1889 to 1G96. From 1896 lo 1903 ho was Principal of B:jdc College, Durham, and in the year 130 dho was made rector of Lambctli as well as examining chaplain to tho Archbishop of York. Walkin (of tho Wunganui Education Board) will learn with interest that as fcho result of his art sf.ndies in London ho han compbtod the full degroe^of Art Master (Soulh Kensington), and'iie Ims been awarded a bronze medal in tho National Competition (1907) for special excellence in Advanced Modelling Design— this being the second hiehest award in this class in tlio Kingdom. Mr. Walkin lias for tho past year" been carrying on his art studies at ths London County Council Cnmdsn School of Art, tho Northern (IlolloAvay) Polytechnic, the Pioyal College of Art, aiid tho Royal Academy of Art. According to present plans, Mr. Watkin will devote at least another year to tho furtherance of his profession before going back to New Zealand. Mr. Walkin's young son, Master Raymond Watkin, is displaying considerable musical talent; he lately sat for junior honours in pianoforte playing (Academy of Arts) and was awarded a "pass with distinction" — tho highest award possible. Mrs. Watkins is here with her husband and ron. and the family is living at Tufnell Parkroad, llolloway, in North London. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Wilkin (Christchurch) have left for tha Continent, accompanied by their daughters. Ho leaves for Paris on Tuesday, and he will then inspect the Alpino tunnels before making any definite arrangements as to what ho will send to New Zealand.
