, -p THE WORK OH MINERS, By Telegraph. — Press Aasocintion.--Cnpyns;ht. (Received September 28, 8.20 a.m.) LONDON, 27th September. The Hon. D. F. Denham, of Queensland, represented 'New Zealand at the centenary celebrations of the Geological Society, London. Sir Archibald Geikie, in his presidential address, paid a high tribute to miners as pioneei's of geology. Sir Archibald Geikie, F.E.S., F.G.S., secretary to tho Royal Society since 3.903, was tha first Murchison professor of geology and mineralogy at Edinburgh University. 1-le issilucd a text-book on geology in 1082, and his other publications are numerous. His brother James 13 also an eminent geologist.
