DEATH OF JENNY LIND'S HUSBAND. TBBSS ASSOCIATION. LONDON, 25th February. Obituary : Mr. Otto Gofdschmidt. husband of Jenny Lind. _ [Mr. Goldschmidt, who was in his 78th_ year, was himself an accomplished musician, but his personality was overshadowed by that of the great vocalist to whom ho was married in 1852. He was educated at tho Lcipsic Conservatorium, under Mendelssohn and Hauptmann, and subsequently accompanied Jenny Lind on her tour through America. He took up his residence in 1850 in England, whero ho became professor of the Royal Academy of Music, and in 1885 vice-president of tho institution. In 1876 he became the first musical director of the Bach Choir, a position ho held till 1885, when he resigned. He collaborated with Sterndale Bennett in dibs pab]\oatioa of various musical works. He received various honours, British and Continental, in acknowledgment of his musical work. His wife predeceased him in 1887.] DEATH OF A RUSSIAN DIPLOMAT. ST. PETERSBURG, 25th February. Baron de Staal, formerly Russian Ambassador in London, is dead. [Deceased represented his country in London from .1884 to 190J2. He was born in 2822, and entered the Asiatic department of the Russian Foreign Office in 1845. Ho became Secretary of Embassy at Constantinople in 1850, and was attached to the staff of the Russian- Commander-in-Chief during the Crimean war. Later on he resumed work in the diplomatic service, being Buccesssively appointed General Consul at Bucharest. Councillor of Embassy at Constantinople, Minister at Stuttgardt, Munich, Darmstadt, and Baden, and finally, as already stated, Ambassador ,in London.
