SERIOUS COACH ACCIDENT.
A VEHICLE CAPSIZES. A CHILD KILLED AND SEVERAL PASSENGERS INJURED. [BI TKLBOHAPH.— KtJJSS ASSOCIATION.) GREYMOUTH, 4th February. A sensation was caused in town when word was received that One of the Christchurch coaches had capsized and the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott I had been killed and other passengers ! injurod. Word was received that a j special train would arrive from Otira ai 9.30, and tho station was then lined with peoplo. It was found that only Mrs. Scott, Miss Kollar, and the dead child were on board. The others who were in tho coach had proceeded to Christchnrch. Miss Kellar, on being Interviewed, stated that tho passengers were Mr.. Mrs., and Miss Condon, Miss Mussen. Mrs. Schaef and child, Mr. Meyers, Mrs. Scott and child, Miss Kellar, Mr. Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Homer. The passengers had just taken their scats on the coach after climbing the Otira Gorge. When tho coach started down lull it ronnded the first turn safely, but at the second the king bolt broke and tho coach capsized; The horses were going very fast. All the passengers were thrown ont of the coach except Mrs. Scott, who dune to tho seat and held her child. Sho got caught and was dragged fnlly two hundred yards. Mrs. Scott »vas badly injnred internally. The horses bolted with part 6f the coach. Tho driver, S. Eastgatc, escaped without injury. Tho passengers wero more or less bruised, but not seriously, and were able to proceed on their journey. Mrs. Scott and the dead child were conveyed from tho -station to Mrs. Keller's in a stretcher.
