JKBKSS ASSOCIATION^ DUNEDIN, 4th February. The Arbitration Court •to-day, at Cromwell i announced that an amicablo settlement had been arrived at in the gpldminers' dispute. An award was made mainly on the lines of tie previous award -with slight alterations. It temains in force for two years 'from l«t April. In regard to sluioers, a conference is to he held. The coalminers' dispute will be heard to-morrow. The Mackenzie, Birley, and Marcott exploration party lias arrived at Glenorchy from Clinton Valley. A deal of original work has been done by tho party, three new passes having been crossed. There are three routes possible between Wakatipu and Glade House, Te Anau. The one like.lv to be most favoured possesses the advantage of having bpt one high saddle, whereas former rpntes had two. The scenery throughout is very fine. Mr. T. Mackenzie thinks this important link in the Lake tourist system should receive prompt attention from the Government. > The .weather was fine throughout) the trip. The Presbyterian Church benefits handsomely under the will of tho late Mr. Samuel Wilson. After providing fpr a few small legacies, the reaidue of the estate is divided into four portions, two of which go to the Presbyterian Church and two to- the Salvation Army. It is estimated that the residential college erection fund and the aged and' infirm ministers' fund will each benefit (o the extent of £5000. MASTERTON, 4th February. A Hungarian mountaineer of extent give experience, who was shown eidelwciss from Mount Holdsworth, affirms that he had seen none on Mount Cook, which he recently ascended. He expressed his appreciation of the beautiful specimen* shown him, which he con* gjders constitute a unique attraction of the trip to Mount Hdldsworth. To-day the construction of a suspension bridge over the Maungatarere torrent, on the mountain track, will commence. This will remove a former menace and make the mountain easily accessibly. NELSON, ,4th February. The Nelson Harbour Board ' election, concluded with the nominations, there being no opposition to the retuuhjPf the old member*. The onl; changes, is that "Mr. William Lock was nominated and elected for the city in place- of Mr. A. H. Hounsell, who has retired. DARGAVILLIi!, 4th February. Tho Court of Enquiry into the wreck of the barque Wai-iti found that the ship was wrecHed at Maqgawhare on 28th January by taking the bank, eventually capsizing ; that Captain Cormack ■bowed error of judgment in unmooring the ship from the wharf without the aid of a tug ; and that ho was guilty of negligence in not taking steps to keep the vessel upright v»hen ihe took the ground ; bnt these errors wero not considered sufficiently serious to warrant the retention of ihc captain's certificate. The captain was ordered to pay the costs of the enquiry, £9.
