GOVERNOR AND ADMIRAL.
THE KINGSTON INCIDENT. ADMIRAL DA VIS'S ACTION APPROVED. (PRESS ASSOCIATION. 1 LONDON, 2nd February. Sir Alfred Jones, senior partner in the firm of Elder, Dempster and Co., has returned from Jamacia. He thinks it was not right that American troops should havo landed at Kingston. Sir J. A. Swottcnham, Sir Alfred says, worked splendidly during the terriblo timo following tho earthquakes. Mr. Hall-Came, who was in Jamaica with Sir A. L. Jones's party, states that Admiral Davis, commander of the American* squadron, told him he had landed troops without tho usual exchange of courtesies as an act of humanity, and that he sont two officers to inform Sir J. A. Swettenham of this fact. Tho Washington correspondent of The Times states that President Roosevolt has conveyod to Mr. Victor H. Metcalf, Secretary to tho Unitod State 3 Navy, his approval of Admiral Davis's action, and Mr. Metcalf has written to the Admiral a letter of commendation. The Kingston correspondent of tho Tribune states that a3 a result of tho carlhqiuko tho disbandment of the West India Regiment has been suspended. It is also stated that the barracks, which were destroyed in tho calamity, are to bo rebuilt shortly.
