[By Huka.] The Wellington Association has deI cided to hold the Easter Tournament at ; tho Day's Bay courts. Special care is to \ bo taken that the courts will receive ■ proper attention. At present tho courts are not watered nearly enough ; more rolling ia needed with a heavy roller, and the plantain weeds must be removed at once. The courts should also be more carefully marked. Now that the association has decided to hojd the tournament at the bay, it must see that the coWts are properly prepared. There is plenty of time if the matter is attended to at once, and the workers advised how to do the work properly. The association is to be congratulated upon its decision, for the bay is undoubtedly an ideal spot for a tournament, and. with just that necessary provision — good management from now — the tournament should be a decided success. Competitors can if they so desire stay over at the bay during the time the meeting is being held. The programme will, it is expected, bo issued in about a week's time. The management has also resolved to put on the programme two championship events — one for boys and one for gir?a attending public schools. One of the conditions is that only twenty entries can be received for each event. The hon. secretary of the Public Schools Association is to take whatever means he may consider advisable in order to reduce the number of competitors, to twenty. The reason for limiting tho number is want of courts, dnd in all probability one court will be used for playing off these school championships. It is indeed gratifying to ccc that the council is unanimous in the approval of the scheme, and while it continues to encourage the youngor players there should be no doubt about the sport flourishing. Behind the courts at the hay there is a hill- which forms a. natural grandstand, and the council Lug secured the right to include the same in the ground area. Spectators will be able to obtain a splendid view of the contests from this spot. Despite the fact that several clubs declined to subscribe to the support of the grounds at Day's Bay when asked at the beginning of the season, their players have rolled up splendidly for, practice on tho courts. Surely these player? should 6eo that some small donation is eont along. The association is pleased at all times to sco parties of players belonging to affiliated clubs on the courts, and cordially invites them to attend. Some clubs have subscribed this season, and I am sure the smallest club in the association can afford to send its guinea, or if it cannot, then each member using the courts might put in a shilling for the season towards the upkeep. The Hastings Club's tournament passed off very successfully, ■ The 1 following ore tho winners : — Men's Handicap Singles : G. Williams (35) beat Tipping (owes 5), 75—39. Ladies' Handicap Singled : Miss Braithwaite (scr.) beat Mrs. Lawlot (25), 50— 47. Men's Handicap Doubles: G. Williams and S. B. Ludbrook (30). beafc Webber and Symonds (20), 70—57. V ;'; ' The Dannevirke Club proposes to hold a tournament on the 16th and 18th March So far the meeting has not been sanctioned by the New Zealand Association, but no doubt the .necessary .approval will be forthcoming when the application arrives in proper form. The Waipawa Club has not yet applied for permission 'to hold its annual tournament The team to represent Australasia in the Davies Cup, which is practically t the World's Championship, will be chosen from N. E. Brookos (Victoria), A. F. Wilding (New Zealand), H. R. Heath (Victoria), Dr. Sharp (New South Wales), H. A. Parker (New South Wales), H. Rice (New South Wales), L. O. S. Poidevin (New South Wales), A. W. Dunlop (Victoria), and A. B. Murphy (Victoria). Really there are only two men in it— Brookes and Wildingj and should any others be included it would only mean weakoning the team. Of course, an extra player might bo taken as an emergency, and in that case H. A. Parker, on his play, must 6ecure the position. The New South Wales Association will play Victoria on the 15th and 16th March at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Teams are to be invited from Queensland and South Australia, and a ladies' team from Victoria. The 'association has decided to present caps to each of the players in the men's division, and badges to the winning clubs in the ladies' matches. The Thorndon Clnb is playing off its men's championship singles. Smythe has beaten Young, and is expected to go near winning the event. Swanston beat Prouse four nets to one. Fisher will take some beating if he is in form.
