RESULT OF NINE MONTHS WORKING. CREDIT BALANCE, £876. At laet night's meeting of the City Council, the following statement of the revenue and expenditure on the Wellington tramways for the nine months which ended on 315t December was laid on the table :— £ s. d.

KILBIRNIE TUNNEL. TEN-MINUTE TRAM SERVICES RESTORED. At last night's meeting of tho City Council both important and unimportant recommendations wero made by the Tramsways Committee of tho Council. The committee reportod that it had instructed the City Iwjgineer to take proceedings to ensure completion of the Kilbirnie tunnel with as little delay as possible. It was also reported that the committee, had accepted the tender of Messrs. Turnbull and Jones for the supply of cables, insulating material, transformers, etc. An important recommendation was one that the ordinary timetable be reverted to. This meant that on every section a ten minutes' service would be reintroduced. Other recommendations were as follows: — (a) Brooklyn cars not to run past the corner of Willis and Manners streets ; (b) that tho application of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for a free tramway pass be not granted ; (c) that tho wages of the two pointsmen at the corner of Manners-street be increased to £2 l}s per week, the amount to include payment for holidays ; (d) that the application of the tramway ticket inspectors for an increased holiday bo not granted ; (o) that tho building formerly used by the. Boys' Institute be sold by auction, for removal^ (f) that tenders be called for extensions to the power house, to provide accommodation tor extra machinery required. In moving the adoption of tho report, the Mayor mentioned that £4000 would be required to defray cost of extending the power hpuse, and the committee recommended that this sum be' paid out of a sum of £10,000 that would bo accrued by tho end of the year to the depreciation fund. The report was adopted in its entirety.
