There is an unusual demand iv the Masterton district at present for scrubcutters and grass-seeders, says the Wairarapa Daily Times. Labour agents are quite unable to procure sufficient men for this class of work, notwithstanding the fact that in many instances the maximum wage and several montus' work are offered. As usual for harvest time, stackers are also scarce, several farmers being unable to proceed with their harvesting at the desired rate on account of the dearth of hands.
